Fish and Marine Life

When I saw my first fishprint in 1976 I was moved by its ultimate simplicity and beauty. Although a novice in art, I was compelled to attempt this medium, and taught myself the basics. Gyotaku allowed me to express my love and awe of ocean life in a way I never thought possible, and opened a door onto my innate creativity. It has become a lifelong passion. I love to share this passion with my students and delight when that creative portal opens for them as well. Nature printing is an art form in which anyone can do and have amazing results.

Gyotaku - Japanese style Fish Rubbings. Made by painting ink onto the body of a fish and pressing rice paper onto the fish. Each image is unique. Seaweeds are printed in a similar manner.
